The students are the Crime Scene Investigators and have been called out with colleagues to collect evidence from the scene of a crime. They will have to consider contamination issues, procedure and PPE in order to follow through with the basic crime scene principles. A report will be completed of all their actions and considerations in the investigation which can be used for assessment in their portfolios against the grading descriptors. They will be able to provide appropriate examples to support their understanding and assist the learner to gain the best possible opportunity for higher grades with the aid of photographic evidence to supplement their learning.
A twist to the scenario used allows the students to problem solve and develop resilience. They must learn to analyse the data they have obtained and consider possible scenarios from the data gathered and show their rationale. This culminates in an engaging and confidence building court exercise with a suspect on trial. They will be lead in how to present evidence, and students will then get the opportunity to play the part of the judge, jury, barrister and even the usher!
